Upcoming Events

Geoff and Michelle are available to give presentations and/or  workshops to specialist groups such Probus, Rotary, Lyons, National Seniors , Writers’ Groups and Libraries which require speakers during the year. City events any time, country associations with a couple of months notice please.

All presentations 25-30 minutes + 15 minutes discussion time. See details below. (For ‘Egobucket’ workshops -  contents and duration tailored to the group’s requirements.)

The egobucket technique/process has many facets and applications. It;

• Promotes mental health – by fostering the safe space needed for both the diffused and focussed creative process.

• Provides ‘mental gymnastics’ for all ages – combining left and right hemisphere brain activity.

• Promotes cooperation and flexible thinking – between individuals in large or small groups.

• Facilitates good teaching and business practices – by recognising the differing and common needs, talents, cultures of the individual and the group.

Power Point Presentation and discussion of Geoff and Michelle’s second co-authored novel.

This presentation reveals little known information and impressions of Woomera Rocket Range in its halcyon days (1960′s) and life in Papua New Guinea in the 1980′s. The authors utilised Geoff’s unusual and at times even extraordinary real life experiences in those remote places to create a novel about an ordinary bloke in not so ordinary circumstances.  The events in this novel presage the real life events that have unfolded in our uncertain times of greed and corporate corruption.

For groups who have not seen their first Ego Bucket presentation Geoff and Michelle will incorporate an outline of their unique method of joint authorship with their latest information and insights on publishing.  For more information on the book itself see previous pages of this website.

They also discuss the main themes of the book itself and the real life events that shaped it. See previous web pages for more information and history.

GM-Will it create Further Famine or Feed the World ?

It’s undeniable that Australia and the world need new directions, strategies and technologies in agriculture and food production. A farmer friend told me that every week in Australia one farmer walks off his land.

In 2008 after seeing a documentary called “The World According to Monsanto” by Monique Robin I decided to investigate the ‘Genetically Modified’ question. I started my research via the net then began attending seminars and reading extensively. I have augmented this study by talking to farmers, nutritionists, doctors and agricultural scientists to keep up to date on the pros and cons of GM technique, food and crops. Geoff and I belong to the Network of Consumers for GM Free Food WA and Australia.

After attending a seminar at the Department of Agriculture in late 2009 I became aware that many people were interested in the subject but found the complexity and controversy of GM daunting. Mr John McGrath my local MLA did his own survey in 2010 and found that 38% of the people he interviewed felt  ill informed about the issues surrounding GM and its technique.

Geoff and I decided to produce a 25-35 minute Power Point Presentation condensing our latest research and information on the topic.

Presentation outlines:-

  • What are GMO’s? Current technique to produce them? The uses of GM?
  • A brief history of GM in Australia and its current status around the world. (including information about the chemical and seed companies that sell GM.)
  • What GM means to farmers – pros and cons.
  • The myths and misinformation surrounding the issue.
  • The biotechnological, agroecological and political solutions available to  alleviate world hunger.
  • How the consumer can keep abreast of the issue, including current food safety / labelling laws.

Please see previous web pages for our sources, motivations and credentials.

Review For GM talk

‘GM Will it Create Further Famine or Feed the World?’

From Marlene Donovan National Seniors Vic Park President

20100329

Hi Michelle,

“You certainly gave us food for thought. (no pun intended) I felt you had put

a great deal of time into your research of the topic. I came away feeling

more informed. Two points which stick with me are the lack of any real

evidence as yet as to the effects( +,-.) these gene modifications may make

on our human condition or any other animal. Secondly, the enormity of an

organisation such as Monsanto holding the rest of the world to ransom when

it comes to the patents of seeds. Who would worry about nuclear weapons when

a monopoly on the seed bank of the world would be far more powerful and much

more lucrative!”

Cheers. Marlene

Dear Michelle and Geoff,
Thank you both for a lovely afternoon and the rain only added to the cosy, family atmosphere! I have already started the book and my partner is pretty chuffed to read he shares the same surname with the main character!! It’s the little things that make us happy ?

Take care

Kind Regards
Siobhan

Hi Michelle and Geoff,
Thanks for a great afternoon on Saturday. The presentation was enthusiastic, humorous, exiting and I was left wanting more. Good luck with your future engagements and I know the book will sell really well for you both.

Congrats and best wishes from Ray.

All in all, a good show with strong beginning, middle, a thunderstorm and an end, take a bow (because it was a seamless, positive collaborative delivery) and I look forward to the next launch.

Love Phil
PS I also think it is commendable the work that you are doing for the blind and there is an obvious respect for you from them and visa versa.
If you do record a version for the blind, please accept a donation of my voice and/or audio skills to assist you with the project.

Bonjour Michelle and Geoff
Thank you for your message. You are quite right, your launch was a very supportive, convivial event – and the weather just provided an additional, interesting feature!
I found your presentation to be a different and most entertaining way of providing everyone with an overview of your book; a great idea. I enjoyed the humour.

I also enjoyed discovering more about your most unusual writing process, if I was to make one suggestion it would be to flesh out this explanation a little more and provide some extra description. I think that people who are interested in this aspect are hungry for the details of the process. For example, you described how each of you write contributions to the book, and that they appear in different colours, but do you do this on separate computers simultaneously and then merge them, or do you take turns to work on the same document and build it sequentially? Do you each allocate a prescribed amount of writing time per day?

The Association is lucky to have your strong support – thank you so much.
Kind regards,
Carol Solosy
